Description:
One in the quartet of Shaw’s Plays Pleasant, Candida is comedic refutation of romantic love. Candida is a thirty-something wife and mother who has unwittingly engendered the love of an eighteen-year-old poet named Marchbanks. The play is ignited when the young man confesses his love for Candida to her husband, a pious clergyman named Morell. Tickets are available online at columbuscivic.org, by phone (614) 447-PLAY, and at the Civics’ box office on the night of performance. Artistic Director Richard Albert directs. Candida cast features all local actors: Ben Gorman (Morell), Rachel Mock (Prossy), Todd Taylor (Lexy), Britt Kline (Candida), Shane Egan (Burgess), and Doug Mondell (Marchbanks). Candida will be the first play presented in the Civics’ new home, located at 3837 Indianola Avenue. The new theater will feature a fifty-seat house, two ADA bathrooms, and energy-efficient theatrical lighting.
